Based in the United States, Mantus Marine has designed and manufactured high-quality components for serious boat users. Their superior range is one step ahead of their competitors in design and functionality.
Their eye for quality is seeing them reach outside the United States on reputation and delivery. Their product ranges are filling niche pockets where others are failing or have failed to deliver.
A good example is the Mantus M3 anchor chain hook range. Mantus has succeeded where Wichard and Anchor Chain Claw struggle.

We have purchased, tried and tested:
1. Mantus M3 Chain Hook (9/10).
Pro’s - All 2205 duplex stainless steel. Easy to connect.
Con’s - None to date. They recommend a spring change every two years.
2. Mantus M2 Chain Hook (also called Chain Grabber) (7/10),
Pro’s - All 2205 duplex stainless steel. Easy to connect.
Con’s - Rubber attachment fails over time. The rubber attachment has failed once going through the roller. Ended up using a soft shackle instead of the rubber.
3. Wichard Chain Hook (old style with spring pin system - no longer made) (5/10)
Pro’s - All 316 stainless steel. Easy to connect.
Con’s - Pin is brittle and tends to bend. The pin and spring need replacing. The pin gets damaged through the roller.
4. Wichard Chain Hook (without the spring) (6/10),
Pro’s - All 316 stainless steel. Easy to connect.
Con’s - Hook slides off the chain when the vessel drifts over the anchor point.
5. Anchor Chain Claw (5/10),
Pro’s - All 316 stainless steel. Easy to connect.
Con’s - Claw pops off the chain as it slips over the roller.
Our cruising sailboat requires a secure and reliable anchoring system capable of handling rapidly changing conditions, from calm anchorages to sudden 35-knot winds sustained over several days, while holding a 21-tonne vessel.
We continue to rely on a Rocna 33 anchor paired with a Mantus Marine S2 swivel (see our review of anchor swivels here).
All components are correctly sized for our vessel, which provides confidence right through the system to the next potential point of failure, the connection between the bridle and the anchor chain.
For this, we currently use the Mantus Marine M3CH2 chain hook, which has performed flawlessly for us with no failures to date.
